This week VPK 2 is busy preparing and celebrating for Hanukkah!
We began our week by taking our field trip to River Garden. Our morning started with making cards for the residents that we would be performing for.
We were all so excited to ride in our friends cars to our special trip!
As soon as we arrived at River Garden we waited for showtime! We sat in the big comfy seats and got a chance to look around!
The student’s did SO great performing! All the residents were SO happy to see your little ones perform! (Not to mention it was great practice for our performance on Wednesday night! 🙂 )
After our performance the kiddos enjoyed a well deserved snack of apple juice and donuts- YUM!
Tuesday was a big day for our class!
During the morning we continued to use our writing skills to write a Hanukkah greeting for our families.
We had a special visit with our VPK Buddies! We made edible dreidels, played dreidel, and played Hanukkah bingo- We even got a special present for Hanukkah from our buddies. It was a great morning- We LOVE our buddy visits!
After saying shalom to our buddies and enjoying the beautiful, cool weather outside. We returned to our class for center time. While enjoying organized free play with our friends, Ms. Carolyn pulled friends over to continue working on our Hanukkah craft and creating a special winter-themed art project for the preschool hallway- melting snowman! We did step 1 of our craft- painting our melted snow. This allowed an opportunity to talk about what melting means and how snow changes when it is hot– just like ice.
While preparing for the big show on Wednesday night, we had to make sure that we had to make sure that we were prepared for the play! We had our final dress rehearsal to practice the songs one more time- we even got to practice with our VPK buddies!
After the practice, we headed back to class for snack and then enjoyed the beautiful weather (who would think it was December with this beautiful weather?!).
When we headed back to class we added the final details to our melted snowmen.
The children also made special invitations for the Hanukkah program- they used their letter sound knowledge to complete the beginning of words.
On our way to lunch, we stopped by to see the “Odd Potato Museum” and to take a quick picture in front of the big menorah that was in the indoor playroom! 🙂
The kids all did SO great during the Hanukkah performance!!! I was SO proud of all of them and the hard work that they put in. I hope you all enjoyed the performance and seeing your little cuties singing about such a joyous holiday! A big thank you to Morah Miriam, Morah Rachel, and Miss Rucha who always make our programs happen 🙂
Thursday- Although many of us were sleepy from being up late the night before- it was time to celebrate Hanukkah with our class party! We all enjoyed making latkes and getting a chance to mix in ingredients and see the latkes being made- A HUGE thank you to all the mom’s that were able to come in and help us make the latkes- we appreciate all that you, as parents, do for us!
While our latkes were finishing being cooked, we enjoyed a special Hanukkah story from Ms. Illene- who read “The Runaway Latke”, brought us a card to decorate, and yummy gelt to eat- We are so lucky for PJ Library supplying us with so many fun activities and for Ms. Illene visiting us to read! We also got to sing our alphabet song, which all the kids love to do! Mara helped us lead the song today.
After our morning of Hanukkah fun, we took some time to play outside with Miss Silvia’s class!
To continue our Hanukkah party, we made Jewish Star necklaces with sand art (A big thank you to Ben’s family for donating Hanukkah goodies to our class!) and we also decorated cards for our families.
It was a great day and all the children had a wonderful time!
We will finish our week with bringing in Shabbat with our friends. Our Ema will be Eva and our Aba will be Zachary. Feel free to join us at 10 AM for Shabbat – we love having visitors! 🙂
I hope that you all have a great end to your Hanukkah and a wonderful Winter Break!
We will see you back at school on January 5!
Miss Lisa and Miss Carolyn 🙂
