Week at a Peek- May 14, 2014

Good afternoon!

I hope that you all had a wonderful and restful Mother’s Day that you all deserve! A big thank you to all the mom’s, grandmas, and aunts that joined us for our Mother’s Day Shabbat. It was truly a great Shabbat and the students loved having all of you there! It was a day that I know all of them will remember for a long time!

This week our Focus Book is “A Mother for Choco”. This book discusses a little bird trying to find his mother. He ends up going around to ask if different animals are his mother and ends up finding a family in an unfamiliar place. This books gives the class an opportunity to discuss how families are all different and that sometimes babies are adopted to different families that look different than them, but, they are still a family. : )

This book also gives the class the opportunity to discuss talking to strangers. Choco went around to different animals, whom he did not know, to ask if they were his mother. Students led a great discussion about talking to strangers and how they feel safe with their family.

Through out this week we will continue to practice many different skills. We will begin to practice writing our own sentences and putting spaces between words. We will continue to discuss different punctuation marks and how you say those sentences. Ms. Shereen came to observe us on Monday and was truly impressed on how far the students have come this year! They are definitely all beyond ready for Kindergarten! : )

We will be learning songs about Choco and different families and work on noticing different shapes and different objects in the room that are made of different shapes.
