You Who News October 12

What’s Up?

It is hard to believe we are approaching the end of our first nine weeks of preschool. It has been wonderful getting to know all of your children, and watching them interact with each other. This is an exciting time for students. We are busy every day learning new things.    We will begin implementing the reading logs you received in your special packet of information at Open House, so please check your child’s pocket folder. It is important that you help your child practice  letters and letter sounds on a regular basis to prepare them for reading. is an excellent website for reading games, reading practice, and math that will engage them and make learning fun, but nothing takes the place of story time with Mom and Dad.           Read, Read, Read, and They Will Succeed!

Check your child’s folder today to find an assessment report.  These assessments were given to each child individually and will help me plan for instruction.  I do not expect mastery at this point.  This is simply a baseline snap shot of what your child knows and the areas we need to concentrate on in the coming months.  We will discuss more on conference day; however, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions at

Early notice: please begin to make plans for our annual Hanukah Program on December 10th @ 5:30.  We will also need volunteers to sew costumes, and drivers for our VPK field trip to River Garden on Dec. 12th.  Please let me know if you can volunteer!

This Week’s Highlights

Shemini Atzeret (no school)

Shemini Atzeret (no school)

Today we made Chicka Chicka Boom Boom books and a craft coconut tree.

Today we enjoyed our visit with our  MJGDS Buddies.  We went on a nature hike to collect leaves and then created beautiful leaf rubbings together.  We also made edible  coconut trees.

Today we will be sharing our name information.  Todah rabah to Kaden’s mommy for being our Guest Reader today!

Book of the Week/Theme:

“Chicka Chicka Boom Boom”  continued

Sneak Peak

Next week we will begin a new theme on numbers. We will continue practice in Math with skip counting by 2’s and 5’s, and count using one to one correspondence. We will begin to learn how to write our numbers as well.  The kids are recognizing the numbers and skip counting amazingly well.  I am so proud of them!

We are thrilled that Hana will be back with us next Wednesday.  We have missed her so!

We are thankful to our substitute teachers, Ms. Kaitlyn, Ms. Jennie and Coach Rebecca !

Although we know many families celebrate Halloween, as a school we do not, so please do not send in candy, or your child in costume. We will look for signs of fall and talk about the weather change, change in the trees and wearing sweaters.  You may bring in fresh pumpkins, (the cooking kind) as we will decorate them with fall leaves, and make pumpkin bread.  Yum!

Please make sure your child wears sneakers to school. This will make outdoor play much more fun for them, and they won’t come home with a Boo Boo report. Also, please tie shoe laces in double knots.

Pocket folders should be brought to school everyday. This will help keep us organized, and ready for school the next day. It is also the parent, teacher, and school source of communication back and forth.

Transportation: Please send a note when your schedule changes or your child is going home with someone else.
